What would you do if you were gifted an £80,000 car?

So picture this; out of the blue, someone hands you the key to a brand new car. More specifically, a one-of-a-kind car worth north of £80,000. Would you keep that car or sell it in a bid to pocket the £80k cash it is worth?

Last month, Yianni from Yiannimize customs gifted a lucky individual a wrapped Audi SQ8. A Little bit later, that very car is listed on Autotrader. People sent Yianni screenshots of the SQ8's listing so naturally, he had to give a public reaction to make his honest feelings absolutely clear.

Yianni makes his displeasure known at the start - Not to the winner of the SQ8, but to those who think he would care about the car being sold instantly. Throughout the video, he goes on to state why selling the car is justified and, in some ways, a much wiser decision to make. It is always important to understand that we do not know the full living situation of another individual; £80,000 in cash is a life-changing amount to the average person, especially after a year of living in a pandemic.

What's more, owning a luxury car has the potential to be a huge money pit. Several days ago, I stumbled upon this Reddit post that deep dives into the reality of owning an expensive car. It is a long post, but to summarise, an expensive car comes with equally expensive running costs. Yianni touched upon that in the video above, but more specifically, if you own a "dream" car, you have to factor in costs such as fuel, servicing and items prone to wear such as tyres and brakes. Chances are if you were not in a position to purchase an expensive car, running one will be outside your monthly budget.

The moral of the story is not to assume someone has ill intent once they sell an expensive gift instantly. Not only do you not know the full living situation of the SQ8 winner, but they may also be making someone else's day by giving them the opportunity to own a unique vehicle popularised on the internet.
