The new Kia Ceed GT is a more grounded alternative to a Civic Type R

Red highlights seem to be what's in for performance hatchbacks nowadays; The Hyundai i30, VW Golf GTI and most prominently, the Honda Civic Type R, feature them. It's no surprise given how red is synonymous with a fiery and exciting character, but what if you want hot hatch styling without the steep price tags?

Meet the new Kia Ceed GT - It is one of the two newest additions to the Ceed lineup and like the aforementioned hot hatches, it features red detailing to let you know it packs more punch than a regular Kia Ceed. However, the performance boost is more modest; like its predecessor, power comes from a turbocharged 1.6 litre engine producing 201bhp, which is roughly the same as a VW Polo GTI, a performance hatchback from the class below.

The lack of performance relative to the majority of C-segment hot hatches is not an issue as the Kia Ceed GT has always been a cut price and more relaxed alternative to the more lairy options. With that said, it keeps with the competition in terms of visual flair with a bespoke bodykit, large 18 inch alloys and dual exhausts which produce a sportier exhaust note than the standard car.

Those seeking more practicality also have the option of the new ProCeed, pictured below. It is a unique take on a variant offering increased load space, resembling a Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. It features the extended wheelbase of a typical estate vehicle but a far more angular rear hatch to give it a much sleeker appearance. This will be the go-to option for those wanting a sporty Ceed with added practicality, and arguably more style!

The GT and ProCeed will be joining the Kia Ceed hatchback and Sportswagon when they go on sale next year.
