Live For Speed: VW Scirocco still unreleased after 10 years???

Do you remember where you were 10 years ago? I was a Year 9 student, having only just entered my first year of being a teenager. A lot has changed (I have facial hair now!) but my main hobby and interest hasn't; that would be gaming and cars respectively. So if I was to reflect on a racing game I used to enjoy 10 years ago, it would be a pleasure to write about today. Though that's not the case for the example I've picked today...

Enter Live For Speed. This PC-Only racing game is the work of three game developers who sought out to create the ultimate online racing simulator. Despite not having the best graphics or most content in its day, the multiplayer experience was incredibly varied and provided great facilities for social gaming.

So now to the awkward bit. In late 2007, The LFS Development team announced that the VW Scirocco would be coming to the game. Exciting news - this was the first time the German sports coupe would have appeared in the virtual world and wasn't even on the streets yet! But then came the bad news and due to unforeseen circumstances, the Scirocco's release was delayed to Early 2008.

Ok, so delaying a single car for a few weeks is not a big deal, right? Well after a couple of months had passed, it later emerged that the Dev Team were working on an entirely new physics model that would be built from the ground up after discovering the characteristics of the Scirocco could not be captured sufficiently on the current physics engine.

Fast foward to 2009, a year had passed and there is no show of the new physics engine, which also meant no Scirocco. Now the Scirocco feels less special as they have started appearing on the streets (sorry America) and in other video games. Apparently work is still going on in regards to those physics today and the VW Scirocco is still unreleased. The car has actually ceased production now!

Don't get me wrong, I don't hold a grudge against the Live For Speed developers. To their credits, development for the game has been continuing with updates to visual aspects of the game, a new track and VR support, to name a few. But trying to understand how content that was intended to be released a decade ago is beyond me. At this point, I'm not sure if anyone would care if the Scirocco was axed from Live For Speed, it's already been axed in real life.
