New Tesla Roadster: The insane EV which can leave any supercar in the dust!

Even as a petrolhead who loves sounds associated with internal combustion engines such as popping exhausts, blow off valves and the like, there is no getting away from the fact the future of motoring is electric and as time passes, it seems like a more intriguing prospect. Gone are the days we would fear the most common form of personal mobility would be in the form of a G-Wiz, now many traditional car manufacturers are letting their creativity flourish with cars like the Honda Urban EV and Porsche Mission-E taking centre stage at motorshows. However, if there is one guy who has really captured the attention of the general public in regards to zero-emission motoring, it is Elon Musk. And he has blown everyone's mind again with this: The new 2020 Tesla Roadster.

The funny thing is that the Tesla press conference was supposed to be focused on the new Semi Truck, but having the Roadster as a well kept secret making its debut at the same event was enough to set off major waves among tech fans and car enthusiasts alike.

That was probably the intention of the conference all along. Smart move, Elon.

As with the other vehicles you would find in the Tesla portfolio, the new Roadster encompasses a sleek and minimalist look. The only thing that really stands out is the massive rear diffuser sticking out from the rear bumper. Whether that styling feature appeals to you or not, you are going to appreciate its presence when you consider the performance statistics.

The Roadster can complete 0-60 in 1.9 seconds. Yeah, you read that correctly. And the insanity goes well beyond 60mph; 0-100 takes 4.2 seconds, a standing quarter mile takes 8.9 seconds and the top speed will exceed 250mph. All of these are crazy numbers, but what's even more mindblowing is that the Roadster is capable of delivering these figures while also providing a range of 620 miles at motorway speeds. Is there anything this car can't do?

We cannot escape the fact Tesla is undergoing a few issues in the real world, most notably the production problems with the Tesla Model 3, but Tesla has become one of the world's most desirable brands from delivering countless innovations... if a little later than planned. But then again, teething issues are expected from a car company that entered the mass market a decade ago.

If the Tesla Roadster can live up to its promises, it could be a game changer for the automotive industry. Exotic car manufacturers like Ferrari, Lamborghini an McLaren can't let the new kid on the block steal their limelight, they are going to have to work overtime on the zero-emission innovations to keep up.
